2023 Toyota Highlander

The Toyota Highlander is a standout in the midsize SUV market with its wide range of trims, choice of powertrains, and long list of standard equipment. For the 2023 model year, the Highlander has a new 2.4-liter engine to replace the V-6. It also has a new 12.3-inch infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster for the higher trim levels. Here's a closer look at what you can get with the 2023 Toyota Highlander.

Trim Levels (Exterior)

The entry-level Highlander L comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, heated and power-adjustable side mirrors, LED headlights, rear privacy glass, and LED taillights. Stepping up to the LE adds LED fog lights and a height-adjustable power liftgate, while the XLE adds a hands-free liftgate, a power moonroof, and silver roof rails.

Choose the XSE for chrome exterior trim, color-keyed side rocker panels, black roof rails, and twin exhaust outlets, or go with the Limited for high-output LED fog lights, 20-inch chrome wheels, and LED daytime running lights. At the top of the lineup, the Platinum gains a panoramic sunroof, adaptive headlights, and illuminated front-door scuff plates.

Engine (Power)

Power for the 2023 Highlander comes from a new 2.4-liter turbo four-cylinder gas engine with 265 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. It comes standard with front-wheel drive and offers all-wheel drive as an option.

Performance

The new four-cylinder engine has more thrust than the outgoing V-6. You'll feel it when you press on the gas and accelerate from a stop. The ride in the Highlander is comfortable and smooth, but if you want a sportier feel, the XSE quickens up the throttle response and steering.

Interior

There's room for up to eight in the Highlander L and LE. The higher-end models have second-row captain's chairs, reducing seating to seven. Cloth upholstery comes standard, and every trim has a power-adjustable driver's seat. You'll get Toyota's SofTex simulated leather upholstery in the XLE, which also adds heated front seats and a power-adjustable front passenger seat. Step up to the Limited for a heated steering wheel, driver's seat memory settings, and leather upholstery.

The entry-level Highlander models have an 8-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system and come with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, and Amazon Alexa. A Wi-Fi hotspot is also available for any trim. The XSE and XLE offer the new 12.3-inch touch screen, which comes standard in the Limited and Platinum. The high-end trims also upgrade to an 11-speaker JBL stereo system

This group of safety equipment includes a forward collision warning system, automatic braking, pedestrian detection, and lane-departure warning. It also includes full-speed adaptive cruise control, road sign recognition, and automatic high-beam headlights. The LE gains a blind-spot monitor and rear cross-traffic alert, and the Limited adds to this with front and rear parking sensors.
